Between one book and the next, I can play an instrument, compose music, paint, train my dog, ice skate, and spend time with my family. I teach adult GED classes in the evening and look forward to a career in instructional design. To that end, I am a graduate student in Purdue's online Learning Design and Technology graduate program.

As I look forward to a future in the instructional design world, I find myself drawing upon the path behind me, rich with over 20 years of designing learning experiences for K-8 music students. I have an undergraduate and graduate degree in music and enjoyed a long, successful career as a vocal music teacher.

I seem to be involved in the learning processes in much of what I do. I started taking ice skating lessons a year ago, putting me squarely in the learner's seat. On the flip side, teaching my dog to do tricks allows me to practice breaking behavioral tasks into the most basic of steps that, when sequenced, become complex behaviors. This one is my favorite:

In short, it is all joy for me, whether learning something new or helping someone else learn. And I look forward to finding learning solutions in the years to come. But first, it's time for me to read another book.
